Yerba Mate

Yerba Mate

Yerba MateA few years ago I found myself drinking excessive amounts of coffee. I knew this wasn’t good for my health or ability to sleep. I actively looked for ways to minimize the amount of caffeine in my diet.

I started by not drinking coffee after a certain time in the day. Eventually I stopped drinking caffeine all together for a month.

But . . . there was something missing. I had grown accustomed to the morning ritual of drinking coffee. I had to find something else.

I eventually stumbled upon a South American tea called Yerba Mate.

Yerba Mate is similar to caffeine, minus the jitters and unpleasant crash at the end of the day. Yerba Mate includes Theophylline, theobromine, and caffeine.

Some of the benefits of Yerba Mate include:

  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Enhanced ability to focus
  • Enhanced physical endurance
  • Aids in digestion
  • Helps control weight
  • Supports cardiovascular health

If you are interested in getting your hands on some Yerba Mate, I do not recommend buying the Yerba Mate in tea bags. I can personally see a much greater affect by using loose leave Yerba Mate. You should be able to find loose leaf Mate in most any tea shop or health food store. If not, you can easily find loose leaf Yerba Mate on Amazon.

I brew my Yerba Mate in a standard Bodum French Press like you would French press coffee.

I first read about Yerba Mate when reading the Tim Ferriss trilogy of books: The 4-Hour Work WeekThe 4-Hour Body and The 4-Hour Chef
